September 30 blood sugarBlood sugar after breakfast yesterday: 98. 2/3 cup Müesli without raisins, 1/2 banana, 1 cup plain yogurt. Plus 1/2 hour run. September 26 Pap smearThe results of my most recent Pap smear came back with irregular results. That's a little scary, but it doesn't do any good to repeat the test now; I need to go back in 6 months to see if there have been any further changes. I had an irregular result once before, about 20 years ago, and it went away. So hopefully this will, too. September 25 blood sugarBlood sugar 1 hr. after lunch: 75. I had a bunch of cheese fondue with bread (didn't count how much actually, but it was probably at least 4 carbs), a cup of green salad with oil and lemon juice dressing, and 1/2 apple.
Update on other symptoms: I only had that one night of poor sleep, no problems since then. I did have a few more heart paliptation episodes, but it's calmed down in the past few days. September 19 heart and sleepIt's been 2 weeks since I raised the Levothyroxin dosage, and yesterday I had heart paliptations off and on all day, and last night I couldn't sleep. I lay awake for hours. I would drift off into a dream and then wake up again immediately. I remembered each dream directly afterwards, but this morning I have no memory of any of them. I think I had 3 dream periods. So my REM sleep was not disturbed, but my non-REM sleep was. I considered just getting up and reading, but I was actually really tired and didn't have the energy to. I finally almost overslept, Kati having to come in and wake me at 10 past 7 this morning. September 09 Thyroid ultrasound and new diabetes therapyI had my annual thyroid ultrasound exam this morning. The doctor did not see anything special, although he did say that my thyroid had shrunk a bit since last year.
He also said that the Eltroxin dosage seems good now, and I should only need to have a blood test to check the thyroid levels twice a year from now on, instead of every six weeks like I've been doing the past year.
And the next ultrasound can be in 2 years, if I don't feel anything unusual myself in the mean time.
Another topic: I saw an article in the Zurich newspaper this morning about a new therapy for Type II diabetes. It is based on the idea that a chronic inflammation in the pancreas is responsible for a reduction in the efficacy of insulin-producing cells, and for their destruction, leading to the necessity for insulin shots. By giving a small group of test patients a single shot of an anti-inflammatory agent that is usually given for rheumatism, they were able to reduce the 3-month blood sugar indicator by 1%. That doesn't sound like much to me, but the report said that that was actually a big success and meant that those patients even needed to reduce their insulin dosages, and that they expected the improvement to increase.
I wonder, since my thyroid problem is also caused by a chronic inflammation in that organ, if this anti-inflammatory might not be helpful in cases of Hashimoto's as well. September 08 Blood sugarBlood sugar last night after dinner: 105 (Basmati rice with cabbage, leek, and onion; fennel and radish salad with oil/vinegar dressing; tomato and avocado salad with oil/lemon juice dressing)
Blood sugar this morning before breakfast: 83. September 07 Blood sugarBlood sugar last night after dinner: 98. (Basmati rice, white meat chicken, curry sauce, green salad with oil/lemon juice dressing).
Blood sugar this morning before breakfast: 89. September 06 Blood sugarBlood sugar after lunch today: 107. Lunch consisted of a green salad with olive oil and lemon juice dressing, fried potatoes and onions, fish sticks, and grapes. September 03 New dosageI began with the new 10 microgramm Levothyroxine tablets today (1 per day). It isn't really a new dosage per se, because I was taking 2 5-microgramm tablets before.
Also, my back feels better. September 02 Back-acheI woke up early this morning with a back-ache, right down low on the left side. It isn't excruciating, but I couldn't find a comfortable position to lie in and couldn't get back to sleep. I thought it'd get better if I went swimming, and it did a bit, but it's still there. It doesn't feel like a muscle ache or a nerve ache. I don't know, but hopefully nothing with the kidney. |
