June 30 Results from doctorI got the results from my last blood test:
TSH 8.8 (normal 0.35-4.5)
FT4 15.3 (normal 10.3-21-9)
FT3 3.55 (normal 3.08-6.47)
So it's better than last time, but still not optimal. I am increasing the dosage to 0.10 mcg on Saturdays as well, which means 4x 0.10mcg and 3x 0.05 mcg per week.
My weight was a bit down, 54.4 kg (119 lbs). I am supposed to "eat more". June 26 SwimmingWhen I go swimming for exercise, I usually just swim for 20 minutes without counting the lengths. I find it easier to check the clock periodically, rather than have to keep the number of lengths in mind. But today just for fun I counted the number of lengths I did in 20 minutes, and it was 30 lengths. Since the pool is 25 meters long, that means I swam 750 meters. Just a fun trivia fact with no larger meaning.
The doctor's office called and had to change my appointment for tomorrow because the doctor won't be in. So now I am supposed to go on Monday instead to get my blood test results. I have exactly enough thyroid pills to last until Monday, so I'll need to get a new prescription then. I don't know why he doesn't want to give me a long-term prescription, rather than me having to go back for every little bottle. June 23 Blood testI went to the doctor for a blood test (for thyroid hormones) this morning. Actually, I rode my bike. It took me 35 minutes, but part of that was because I didn't know the best way to go. I had to walk part of it, too, because it was too much uphill at once. The blood test went fine, and I didn't nearly faint.
Then I rode back home, which took 40 minutes because I tried being clever and going another way, and ended up unnecessarily going all the way up the Entlisberg (623 ft.) and then all the way back down it again before getting on the right bike path. And I walked the last bit up the last hill to our house, too.
I tested my blood sugar after my morning snack today, because I felt it was a bit heavy: 2 slices of whole-wheat bread with cheese, and 1 piece of the no-sugar cherry pie Peter made yesterday (recipe very similar to the no-sugar apple pie, only he used cream instead of milk -- very delicious). Blood sugar after one hour was 85, so that was okay.
I go back to the doctor's on Thursday to get the blood test results. June 11 Blood sugar checkBlood sugar 1 hour after dinner last night: 95.
I haven't been feeling the heart palpitations for a few days now. Does that mean the T4 dosage is too low already? June 07 Heart palpitationsRight about on schedule, after having increased the T4 med (Levothyroxine, which is called Synthroid in the U.S., incidentally), my heart palpitations have come back. I've been having it about once a day for the past week, usually in the evening, but today it's happened several times already this morning. Side effects show up from 6 hours to 11 days (!) after ingestion. Overdose can also cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which is kind of interesting. I wonder if my sometimes low blood sugar is due to the thyroid med. My doctor has never mentioned this possibility. Other side effects can include difficulty sleeping, nervousness, headache, insomnia, weight loss, swelling of legs and feet, and increased appetite. The only one of those I sometimes have is difficulty sleeping, but not insomnia. |
