November 24 Indigestion = high blood sugar?Ugh, I felt really yucky after lunch today. I ate way too much rice salad (brown rice, zucchini, tomato, tuna fish, peanuts, with olive oil and lemon juice dressing), plus millet risotto (millet, mushroom, onion, zucchini, grated cheese). Maybe a total of three cups? I was just so hungry, and it tasted so good! About 20 minutes after eating, I started to get a stomach ache. I felt progressively sicker until I had to lie down. I'd read that stomach-ache can be a sign of high blood sugar, so I measured my blood sugar an hour after lunch, and it was 124. :( Although that's a bit on the high side, it's not so high that I think it caused the stomach-ache. I had one bout of diarrhea then, and I got worried that my blood sugar might be staying high, so I measured it again after another 20 minutes, and it was down to 110, so that was a bit better. My stomach still hurt pretty bad, so I went back to bed and fell sound asleep. Luckily, Kati woke me after an hour. My stomach was almost all better, but I felt totally drained and tired. Maybe I am coming down with something? I don't know if I just had trouble digesting and that led to the high blood sugar, or if that's even possible. Anyway, it made me NOT want to eat any more of that rice salad. Kati didn't eat anything for lunch (maybe she knew it was bad?), but William had some of both the rice and the millet, so I'll be checking how he feels later, too. November 18 blood sugarBlood sugar 1 hr. after lunch: 93. 2 pieces of pumpkin-mushroom-onion puff pastry, 1 cup of endive salad with olive oil-vinegar-mayonnaise dressing. Forgot to eat a piece of fruit. November 08 blood sugarBlood sugar after dinner: 98. Two pieces of very greasy homemade mushroom and salami pizza (by Peter), 1/2 cup cole slaw, 1/2 cup cooked cabbage, onion, peppers, and mushrooms (also by Peter... he's in a cabbage mood).
And my eyes are better. November 03 Dry eyeI woke up last Thursday night with completely dry eyes. My eye lid was literally glued to my eyeball with dryness. I peeled them apart and it was like a stabbing pain in my eye that persisted for the rest of the night (needless to say, I did not sleep). I was too tired to get up and look in the mirror, and I didn't really think it was bleeding or anything because it was still so dry and I could see with it, so I didn't worry all that much. In the morning, when I was about to get up, that one eye started tearing up (that's tears, as in teardrops) really badly, and when I finally looked at it, it was all pink. So now I was worried that I might have that really bad infection that went around Adliswil just before the Herbstferien, and as soon as it was 8:00 I called my doctor and asked if I could come in. The receptionist was so nice and said I could come in right away, so I hopped in the car and drove into the city.
By the time I got to the doctor, of course, the teariness had gone away and the eye didn't hurt as much, and was just slightly pinkish. But I had him look at it and described the symptoms, and he said I had 'dry eye', which can be quite painful. He prescribed me some artificial tears to put in 4x a day, and by the end of the day, it felt all better. I have been using the eyedrops since then a couple times a day and it's really helped. |
